Our Mission

To make needless animal suffering - a bit weird.

Why We're A Thing

Today's 'normal' when it comes to how we treat animals, is potentially a bit weird.

We will run into burning houses for our dogs, but we put billions of chicks in gas chambers when we don't need to, we rip fur from live animals for fashion, we put rubber bands around lambs' balls without pain relief and wait for them to fall off - it's just all a bit weird.

A Bit Weird exists to fight for animals, and to shine a light on some of these norms, just in case they are in fact - a bit weird.

Pigs are gassed with Co2, which causes acid to build up on wet surfaces like airways, the mouth and eyes. It hurts loads.

Having actually come from the meat industry many years ago, I realised it was all a bit weird. And so more recently I founded 'THIS', which is now one of the UK's leading plant-based food brands.

I care about animals (even the crap ones like wasps) a lot. I think we've got to reexamine how we treat them and figure out if maybe our 'normal' is in fact, a bit weird.

Do I think chickens are silly? Of course I do, have you seen a chicken? Do I think they deserve to die a horrible painful death just because they are born male? Absolutely not.

I was initially driven to give up most animal products because of their impact to the environment (I’m a tree-hugger first and foremost), but it didn’t take long for me to realise that how we treat animals is a bit weird.

Throughout my career in the food & drink industry, I’ve worked in major supermarkets, multinational CPG businesses and scale-up food producers, which has given me a lot of insight into how our food is produced.

I believe that, as a society, we need to show much more compassion to animals in the food system, and I also believe that if people knew more about current practices, they would want them to change.
